Food is Fuel
100% of all the energy we use daily come from carbohydrates, fat, and protein. There’s been some confusion about what nutrients are healthy to eat and how much of what we should be eating. None of these nutrients need to be avoided because they are essential to our bodies functioning properly. Today I’m going to explain how each nutrient affects your body.
Carbohydrates (popularly referred to as carbs) give our bodies energy when it gets broken down and turned into glucose. This glucose made by carbohydrates fuel our muscles when we use them but can potentially turn into fat if you don’t.
Fats don’t actually make you fat. Just like protein fat is used as fuel. Your brain uses fat as its only source of fuel. Fat makes your 60% of your brain and helps you think clearer.
Our bodies use protein to build cells and repair tissues. You never want your body to use protein for energy because your body has to run out of stored fats and carbs first.
Vitamins and Minerals
Your body needs a certain amount of vitamins and minerals on a daily basis. They are used in creating new cells along with tissue repair.
Your body needs a mix of these nutrients daily to be able to think and move at its best. Too much or too little of a nutrient can leave your brain feeling foggy or your body feeling sluggish. The quality if the food you eat is also linked to how happy you are – I couldn’t believe this was true when I read it but it’s true, certain foods can affect your mood.
Food is fuel. Whatever you eat is either giving your body the nutrients it needs or wrecking your metabolism while making you feel awful. If you always feel bad during the day start by changing your diet, your future self will thank you for it.
