The Complete Video Guide on How to Ride a Motorcycle
These videos will cover the basics how to ride a motorcycle. (I’ll update them as new content comes out)
Parts of a Motorcycle
In the first video, I’m going to introduce the basic parts of a motorcycle and how they control the bike. I’ll be doing a walk around of a Yamaha R1 and talking about the things you would expect to learn the first day in a motorcycle safety course.
How to Ride
In the second video, I’ve swapped out the R1 for a BMW s1000rr and will be covering the basics of riding with confidence. We’ll be discussing how to use the clutch to get started riding, how to use the brake and how to shift between gears.
As a kid, I never wanted a motorcycle. I never really had given any thought to how cool they were or anything like that.
The reason I got started riding was because I was a lazy college student. After my sophomore year, the upperclassmen received notice that we were being kicked off of campus to make room for incoming freshmen. The campus was small enough to walk across in 10 minutes so I had no problem walking from my dorm on the far side of campus to any of my classes. Now that I was being forced to move off campus I knew the walk would be too far. In addition to that, I noticed there was a serious parking problem on campus. Students who already lived off campus complained about how it took 20 to 30 minutes just to park their car before getting to class. I knew I’d have a hard time making it to class on time if I couldn’t find a place to park as soon as I got on campus so I decided to park between the parking spaces and buy a motorcycle.
After my finals were completed I searched on YouTube for how to ride. The next weekend I bought my first bike on Craigslist (Yamaha 600R) and I’ve been riding ever since.
