Why Should We Research the Things We Put in Our Body

After being on the pill for 11 years and not feeling quite right about it Emily did some research and discovered the side effects associated with birth control pills & how they can vary from person to person.

Birth control is usually prescribed to prevent pregnancy a or control acne.

Did you know the pill can strip your body of nutrients?

Birth control pills react almost like an antibiotic in your gut. It will wipe out all bacteria good and bad. That may make you more susceptible to a yeast overgrowth leading to infection.

Artificial hormones prevent the absorption of micronutrients, vitamins, and minerals. It doesn’t allow for the absorption of B vitamins, magnesium, and vitamin C, which can lead to short and long-term impacts on your health.

Short-term side effects of the pill:

  • mood swings
  • headaches
  • acne
  • bloating and weight gain
  • irregular bleeding or spotting
  • breast tenderness
  • yeast overgrowth and infection
  • nausea
  • aches and pains in your legs
  • low libido

Long-term side effects of the pill:

These macronutrient deficiencies can lead to infertility even if you’ve stopped taking birth control. Poor physical and mental health can be a result of being nutrient deficient.

Depression

Birth control pills and other hormonal contraceptives have been linked to causing depression in women at significant rates. Women with no history of depression commonly develop symptoms after being introduced to artificial hormones.
