Why Your Subconscious Mind Tries to Hold You Back
Think back to a time when you were trying something new.
How did you feel?
Most people feel scared and maybe a bit nervous when trying something new because our subconscious mind uses emotions like fear and self-doubt to keep you from changing. Your subconscious mind will replay images of past experiences that didn’t go so well to keep you in your comfort zone.
Why Your Experiences Before the Age of 7 Shape Your Belief System
The majority of your beliefs about the world and who you are as a person are formed before the age of 7. Your logical brain isn’t fully developed until then. The logical part of the mind is where you make decisions based on past experiences. Young children don’t have a frame of reference at that age because they don’t have the life experience to base decisions on.
Emotional events prior to the logical brain developing are extremely important because of your subconscious mind to create belief systems based on those events. Those belief systems that you create at the age of 7 based on incomplete data or experience left unchallenged stay with you for the rest of your life.
Why Negative Thinking is Detrimental to Success
Every thought or feeling is a command that you send to your subconscious mind. If you feel afraid your mind looks for evidence that confirms that feeling.
It’s important to separate who you are from your thoughts and feelings. These thoughts and feelings are an effort to keep you in your comfort zone. Challenge your negative thoughts, just because these thoughts are recurring doesn’t make it real. Often it is your subconscious mind over generalizing negative events from your past in an effort to keep you safe.
Ask yourself are these thoughts real or fear based? You’ll learn techniques to deal with negative emotions in the podcast.
